Last Wednesday, Gov. Cuomo announced three appointees to the START-UP NY Approval Board: Edward Cupoli, Abraham Lackman and Andrew Kennedy. The Approval Board will evaluate and approve up to 20 private university and college plans as designated tax-free areas under the START-UP NY program.
Mr. Cupoli, who was appointed by the Assembly Speaker, is a former Chief economist at SEMATECH and Professor of NanoEconomics at SUNY Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering. Mr. Lackman, the Senate’s appointee, has served as Secretary to the Senate Finance Committee and as New York City budget director. The Governor’s appointee, Andrew Kennedy, currently serves as Assistant Secretary for Economic Development.
